Our popular Honest Shop was initiated by local arts organisation Grizedale Arts, and opened in 2012. It is not staffed, and collects sales cash via an ‘honesty box’ by the door. The Shop stocks a wide range of local produce and locally-made products, predominantly hand-made. These include seasonal fruit, vegetables and flowers, knitted and craft items, preserves and the ever-popular home baking. Not only has the Shop welcomed the BBC’s John Craven (above) but other celebrity visitors have included musician Ray Davies & artist Grayson Perry.
Contributing to fundraising for the upkeep and development of the Coniston Institute, 75% of the sales income goes to the producers / suppliers and 25% goes to the Institute. If you are feeling creative and would like earn a little extra money, please contact us to find out how to sell via the Honest Shop.
The Shop is accessed from its own Yewdale Road entrance and is open every day, 9am – 5pm (often later!)
