Join local craftsmen Tom Philipson and Simon Athersmith as they teach you how to create adaptable and experimental construction designs using from a local woodland and sawmill. Over this two-day course, you’ll learn a range of simple timber jointing systems and variety of minimal intervention construction techniques as you build a temporary pavilion on the Ruskin Museum’s Meadow. On the second day, to create the pavilion’s roof structure, you’ll learn the art of Japanese Shou Sugi Ban, a traditional technique of weatherproofing wood by charring it with fire.
