This two-part workshop will teach you how to make your own decorative domestic tiles and paving bricks for use in the home and garden. In the morning session, architect Takeshi Hayatsu will guide you through his process of making decorative paving bricks, moulding wet brick clay into pre-prepared plywood boxes before pressing in lino-cut patterns to create unique decorative surface textures. In the afternoon, local craftsman Tom Philipson will share his encaustic tile making system, demonstrating how to form your own tiles by pressing terracotta clay into plywood moulds and creating abstract decorative surfaces with tile stamps.
Advance booking essential. Book your tickets through Eventbrite – HERE.
Please Note: All tiles and bricks made during the workshops will require kiln firing which will be done outside the workshop after a two-week drying period. Tiles and paving bricks produced will be available after this for collection from the Coniston Institute.
